Name: David Falt DOB: 1970 Interview: Moon Climbing / January 2011
Moon Climbing - When and where did you start climbing? David - Stockholm Sweden 1986...
Moon Climbing - Do you have a favourite style of climbing (traditional, sport, bouldering etc)? David - Alpinism and Sport Climbing
Moon Climbing - You are stuck on a desert island with just one route and one boulder. Which ones would you choose and why? David - I guess you want them to last long time so Linea Eleganza on Fitz Roy would do the job in terms of an eternal route... Boulder... No Idea...
Moon Climbing - Who is your climbing hero or inspiration and why? David - Gosh so hard but I'd say Hans Christian Doseth a Norwegian super star who died in 1984 on Trango Tower. His routes where 20 years ahead of their time. He was a big star on the Scandinavian climbing arena and great all-round climber. Doseth put up some very hard trad and sport routes as well as huge new and visionary routes in the Himalayas. A modern one would be Ueli Steck. Speed is safety!
Moon Climbing - How often do you climb? David - About 4 days a week I guess
Moon Climbing - Where and how often do you train and for how many hours per week? David - I don’t train. I climb outside all year around.
Moon Climbing - What kind of training do you do? David - Climbing... And failing and trying again.
Moon Climbing - Your top training tip or tips? David - Get out climbing in all possible conditions and you will find it easy on the good days.
Moon Climbing - The climbing achievement you are most proud of and why? David - I hope they are coming in the future... But if I need to pick one I'd say our winter ascent of Gabarrou-Silvy on Aiguille Sans Nom (3982m) VI WI6 6b M7 A1, 1000m. One of the most demanding routes in the Alps and the best climbing I have ever done. Perfect Ice, rock and mixed with safe belays.
Moon Climbing - What is your opinion on competitions? Good, bad or indifferent? David - I think its fun as long as the spirit of climbing is not lost in the strive for just pulling harder...
Moon Climbing - Your goals for 2011? David - Some thing big in Patagonia would be great to do (First round 1-0 to Patagonia but I will be back for a second round). I have a few projects in Ceuse and Gorge du Tarn, although they are nothing special they are nice routes. And then my ever-lasting project on Latok (7145m in Pakistan).
