It was the three hours of physics on a Thursday afternoon that finally put paid to my mum's idea of a proper education. Instead of the physics, I used to bunk off school and spend the afternoon training on a climbing wall I had built in my father's studio at the end of our garden. My homemade wall consisted of about 10 pieces of wood nailed to the side of the garage, and it only offered about three or four moves. The wood, left over from old stretchers my father had built for his paintings, provided just a small edge to crimp, so the climbing was short and basic but it certainly tested the fingers.
Between running laps on my wall, I read about the latest "Hardest Climb" from my hero Ron Fawcett and dreamt of leaving home, and the sprawling suburbs of London, to become a full time climber. This was way back in 1982, and it's amazing to think how training facilities have developed and evolved over the years from that primitive form into the massive artificial walls that few serious climbers neglect.
All the same, the essential facts remain unchanged. To really get strong for outdoor climbing, there are still two things you can't do without: a few small edges and a ***t-ton of enthusiasm.
What you'll find in the MOON collection are the basics needed to take you to that next level. And to keep you on track, we've backed these up with some vital inspiration and information via our online School Room, right here.

If you're a keen climber then you would almost certainly have come across the infamous School Room, whether it was a photo or mention in a magazine or climbing video or a rumour of some sort. This section of the site is dedicated to training which is why we've chosen to name it after the school room. Here is where you will find articles by Rich Simpson on goal setting and generally getting your arse into gear. More importantly we have a guide on how to build a Moon school room board. Yep, you can build an exact replica of what some of the UK's finest are training on. Fit it with Moon holds and download a list of problems and you're off. In time we will be posting new problems and plan to set up a forum for discussion so sign up for our newsletter to make sure you don't miss out on new additions.
